High 5 Games Ordered to Pay $25 Million for Illegal Gambling Activities
High 5 Games, a popular online gaming company, has been ordered to pay a hefty sum of $25 million to plaintiffs in Washington state for offering illegal gambling activities. This ruling is part of a larger crackdown on social casino gaming in the United States.
The Complaint and Lawsuit
The class action lawsuit was filed by former High 5 Games customers who alleged that the company’s online social casino games violated Washington state’s gambling laws. These games allowed players to stake virtual currency and required them to purchase more digital tokens when they ran out, in order to continue playing.
Although players could not win real money, the plaintiffs argued that they were essentially gambling with real money due to the need to purchase tokens to play. The court ultimately agreed with the plaintiffs, ruling that High 5 Games’ activities constituted illegal gambling.

The plaintiffs, who were high-rollers and had collectively lost $18 million, were successful in their lawsuit against High 5 Games. As a result, the company has been ordered to pay $24.9 million to players in Washington state, including the $18 million lost by customers and nearly $7 million in damages.
